Psycho Barn

Like the Surrealists, I enjoy incongruity. Juxtaposing things in unexpected pairings creates mental confusion which can amusing and enlightening. Right now, there's nothing more incongruous in New York than the "Psycho Barn."

On the roof of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, an artist created an installation using reclaimed barn-wood to resemble the creepy house in Hitchcock's classic film "Psycho." I went up to there yesterday with artist-friend Anne who blogs at Spy Girl. We enjoyed beautiful Summer weather and the skyline of Manhattan. There's also an excellent fashion exhibition on display now in the Met. Anne took pictures of that and will likely blog about it soon.

  3. What did you think of the barn? Did they let you go in? The odd thing is that I've been to the Met more times than I can count... but I've never made it on the roof!

    1. The roof is really nice: they have a food counter and seats up there. Looking out over the skyline is delightful. The "barn" is actually only a facade (on two sides). There's no real inside to enter.

  4. Aww, so cool ! I am so jealous that living in NY you can do so many cool and interesting things...this is something I'd love to visit ! I loved the MET so much when I visited ! It would have been cool if you could actually enter the barn...maybe take a shower like in Psycho, LOL ! I am sorry but I am a lover of thriller and even horror movies and this excites me too much :-D Hugs

  7. What was inside? I bet it was candy. Wouldn't it have been neat if it was candy?

  8. I've been to New York twice with about sixty 8th graders. I taught Social Studies for 37 years with a focus on civics. So, as you can imagine The Met was not on our agenda. Clearly I need to do another (kind of) visit to NYC soon!

  12. Seriously cool! What a great exhibit to enjoy in the company of a dear friend (horror movies - and their props alike - are always better viewed when you're not alone! :D).
