Simple and Elegant

I saw this sparkly black dress and fell in love.  It has an Oriental-style collar which is best visible in the second picture.

To avoid taking anything away from the dress, I didn't add the usual fashion-blogger items like a belt or cardi; I relied on just some silver jewelry, black hose and black pumps.  Sometimes simpler is better.

I like how this dress fits and feels.  Wearing it is a delight.  The outfit is something I'd enjoy for a party with friends.  What do you think?

  1. YES, simple and elegant is for sure.. I love it. and I think a belt would have ruined it anyway!!! you have done it up perfectly and it totally suits you. I love the mandarin color as well.. thats a better collar on me also, rather than regular shirt collar.... love the the blue eye shadow too....!!!

  2. Yes, you styled this perfectly. The dress is so beautiful, it doesn't need a lot of bling and accessories. I love this type of neckline. A job well done!

  3. That dress is beautiful. I love that you let it shine. It suits you I think. I'm glad you left it as is, it makes a great statement (of course, I'm also in favor of throwing on a big metal belt, but that's just my over the top speaking). I love mandarin collars. They're surprisingly underrated in my opinion.

  7. I think you accessorized it perfectly, Ally! The cuff and earrings are all you need with a gorgeous dress like that. I'm a huge fan of mandarin-inspired dresses. I hope you'll wear this for a Christmas party!

  11. love it, but maybe a smokey eye would be more flattering to your eyes? This dress really hugs the curves in just the right way!

  12. Very chic. You're right that sometimes simple is better. It'd be a shame to cover this beautifully simple dress with a cardigan, belts, or other accessories. Sometimes it's hard for me to stop layering on so much, but this is a good example that shows simple can work.

  15. Very classy, just what a lawyer should wear and yet again I have to say your legs are to die for!

I don't think your eye makeup makes the most of your eyes though, they are a really unusual colour and I agree smoky may be the way to go or a subtle brown / green.

  16. i love the Oriental flair that it has. I have always wanted a dress that has some kind of Oriental style -- very similar to this one. Plus, black is kind of my color. :)

I like the makeup. A lot. I think you do a great job applying it!

  17. Ally-
    You. Look. Beautiful.

I feel like other commenters do - that there are times when you really look like you feel amazing in something. Looking back over your outfits - do you think you could pick the 3 that made you feel most fab?

  21. I was planning a lot of job interview type outfits today for some stuff I have lined up, and I kept wanting to add a pop of colour, or layer some necklaces - something I never tend to do in daily wear, oddly, so ti was good to read this post and remember "simple can be elegant!"
